O’Hara Foxes Club (OFC)

The O’Hara Foxes Club (the OFC!) is a series of after school enrichment activities coordinated by the O’Hara PTO. Current activity offerings are detailed below. You may register online, with an option to pay by cash, check, or credit card. Please remember to change your child’s dismissal routine using the School Dismissal Manager app (or send a note) for afternoons that he or she will be staying for OFC classes.  You may also pack a snack and drink for your child to enjoy before class begins each week. If you any questions about the O’Hara Foxes Club, please email Meghann Jones at ofc@oharapto.org.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is offered for all classes. O’Hara Families may request one (1) complimentary registration per student per session offering. To request a scholarship, register online and select the cash payment option. After registering, email your confirmation to Nurse Grove and/or Mrs. Squeglia, who will discreetly coordinate payment. Your request will remain confidential, and will not be known to PTO volunteers or program coordinators.

Spring 2020 O’Hara Foxes Club Program Offerings

Chess Club

Let’s play chess! Chess Club is led by instructor Bob Willson and facilitated by O’Hara parent, Cate Mettenburg. Bob has been teaching chess classes in schools for the past 19 years. Chess is a centuries-old game originally devised to help children become better thinkers. Today, it is recognized as a great way to provide children with academic, educational, and social benefits. Chess challenges children to focus their attention, think creatively and independently, and become better problem-solvers. Students also learn the value of patience, self-control and respect. And chess is fun and rewarding.

Participants will be divided into two groups: a Beginners group for newer players and a more experienced group.  Each group receives lessons for their level.

Note: Children signing up for this class must know how the pieces move.  It helps if they have had some playing experience, but beginners are accepted if they can name the pieces and move them correctly.

Parent volunteers are also needed to assist with check-in and check-out. You can sign up for a shift on a Signup Genius that will be circulated after registration is complete.
